Respect for knowledge and its people: On the authority of Isa bin Yunus. He said: I heard Al-A’mash, may God have mercy on him, say: Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, used to pass by me at the beginning and end of the day, and I would say: I will not listen to any hadith from you. You served the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, then you came to Al-Hajjaj until he appointed you. He said: Then I regretted it, so I started narrating from a man on his authority. [Al-Hilya (its abridgment) 2/140].

Respect for knowledge and its people: Jamilah, Anas's freedwoman, said: Whenever Thabit, may Allah have mercy on him, came, Anas said: Jamilah, give me perfume with which to touch my hand, for the son of Umm Thabit is not content until he kisses my hand and says: It touched the hand of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Respect for knowledge and its people: On the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn Habib ibn Azdak, he said: I heard Nafi’ ibn Jubayr say to Ali ibn al-Husayn, may God have mercy on him: May God forgive you! You are the master of the people and the best of them, you go to this slave and sit with him - meaning Zayd ibn Aslam - so he said: It is appropriate for knowledge to be followed wherever it is. Respect for knowledge and its people: Ibn al-Mubarak, may God have mercy on him, was asked about a matter in the presence of Sufyan ibn Uyaynah, and he said: We were forbidden to speak in the presence of our elders. [Al-Siyar (its abridgment) 2/772].
