The stance of the early Muslims on building houses and palaces: Sa`d ibn Abi Waqqas, may God be pleased with him, said: “There are three things that bring happiness, and three things that bring misery. As for happiness: a righteous and agreeable wife, a mount that takes you wherever you wish among your companions, and a spacious dwelling with many amenities. As for misery: a wife of bad character, a bad mount that tires you if you want to catch up with your companions, and leaves you behind if you leave it, and a cramped dwelling with few amenities.” [Ibn Abi al-Dunya Encyclopedia 7/467].
