Condemnation of the heart's attachment to money: On the authority of Al-Ala’ bin Ziyad, may God have mercy on him, he said: I saw people in a dream, following something, so I followed it, and there was an old, toothless, one-eyed woman, wearing every kind of ornament and decoration, so I said: What are you? She said: I am the world. So I said: I ask God to make me detest you, she said: Yes, if you hate money. [Al-Siyar (its abridgment) 1/478].

Condemnation of the heart's attachment to money: Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may God have mercy on him, said: By God, I have known people, even if one of them inherited great wealth, he said: By God, he was in severe hardship. He said: So he would say to his brother: O my brother, I know that this is an inheritance and it is lawful, but I am afraid that it will corrupt my heart and my deeds, so it is yours, I have no need for it. He said: So he would never take anything from it. He said: By God, he was in severe hardship. [Al-Zuhd by Imam Ahmad / 444].

Condemnation of the heart's attachment to money: Hisham bin Hassan said: I heard Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may God have mercy on him, swear by God, no one has ever cherished the dirham except that God humiliated him. [Al-Siyar (its abridgment) 2/561].

Condemnation of the heart's attachment to money: Abu Sulayman al-Darani, may God have mercy on him, said: I have found a way to get rid of everything except gold and silver, for I have not found a way to remove it from the heart. [Al-Hilya (its abridgment) 3/191].

The importance of paying off debt: On the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with him, he said: Whoever dies while owing a debt will be held accountable for it on the Day of Resurrection. Some of his good deeds will be taken and added to the good deeds of his creditor. If he has no good deeds, some of the bad deeds of the creditor will be taken and placed upon the debtor.
