Full English translationThe way of the early Muslims with the Qur’an: On the authority of Abdullah bin Ismail, he said: A man from Qais, known as Abu Abdullah, told me: One night, while I was with Al-Hasan, may God have mercy on him, he got up in the night to pray, and he kept repeating this verse until the time before dawn: “And if you should count the favors of God, you could not enumerate them” [Ibrahim: 34]. When morning came, we said: O Abu Saeed, you did not go beyond this verse all night. He said: There is a lesson in it. We do not raise our eyes or lower them except that a blessing falls upon us, and what we do not know of God’s blessings is greater. [Ibn Abi Al-Dunya’s Encyclopedia 1/257].
