Seeking reward: On the authority of Tufayl ibn Abi Ka'b, that he used to come to Abdullah ibn Umar, may God be pleased with him, and go with him to the market. He said: When we went to the market, Abdullah ibn Umar would not pass by a peddler, a shopkeeper, a poor person, or anyone else without greeting him. So I said: What are you doing in the market if you don't stop to buy things, don't ask about the goods, don't haggle over prices, and don't sit in gatherings? He said: I say, let's sit here and talk. Abdullah said to me: O Abu Batn (Tufayl had a large belly), we only go out for the sake of greeting, so greet whomever you meet. [Al-Hilya (its abridgment) 1/221].
