Forbearance, forgiveness, pardon, and the condemnation and cure of anger: On the authority of Abd al-Ghaffar ibn al-Qasim, he said: Ali ibn al-Husayn, may God have mercy on him, was leaving the mosque when a man met him and insulted him. The slaves and freedmen rushed to him, so Ali ibn al-Husayn said: "Be patient with the man." Then he turned to the man and said: "What has been concealed from you of our affairs is greater. Do you have any need that we can help you with?" The man was ashamed, so he gave him the cloak he was wearing and ordered that he be given a thousand dirhams. After that, the man would say: "I bear witness that you are from the descendants of the Messenger." [Sifat al-Safwa 2/451].
