Patience, forgiveness, pardon, and the condemnation and treatment of anger: On the authority of Ibrahim bin Abi Ablah, he said: Umar bin Abdul Aziz, may God have mercy on him, became very angry one day with a man, so he sent for him and brought him, and he stripped him and stretched him with ropes, then he called for whips until we said: He is going to strike him, then he said: Let him go, for if I were not angry I would have made him miserable. He said: And he recited this verse: “And those who restrain anger and pardon people - and God loves the doers of good.” [Al Imran: 134]. [Az-Zuhd by Imam Ahmad / 504].
