High ambition: Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with him, said: I humbled myself as a seeker, and I became honored as a sought-after person. He used to say: I found most of the knowledge of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, with this group of Ansar. I used to rest at the door of one of them, and if I wished, he would permit me, but I sought thereby to please him. [Uyun al-Akhbar 2/519, 520].

High ambition: A man looked at Muawiyah, may God be pleased with him, when he was a young boy and said: I think this boy will become the leader of his people. Hind, may God be pleased with her, said: May I be bereaved of him if he will only become the leader of his people. [Uyun al-Akhbar 1/256].

High ambition: On the authority of Saeed bin Jubeir, may God have mercy on him, he said: Sometimes I would come to Ibn Abbas, and I would write on my scroll until I filled it, and I would write on my sandal until I filled it, and I would write on my palm. [Al-Siyar (its abridgment) 2/507].
