آداب وواجبات من يقوم بالأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر: قال وهيب رحمه الله: لو أن علماءنا عفا الله عنا وعنهم نصحوا الله في عباده، فقالوا: يا عباد الله اسمعوا ما نخبركم عن نبيكم وصالح سلفكم من الزهد في الدنيا فاعلموا به، ولا تنظروا إلى أعمالنا هذه الفاسدة: كانوا قد نصحوا لله في عباده، ولكنهم يأبون إلا أن يجروا عباد الله إلى فتنهم وما هم فيه. Full English translationEtiquette and duties of those who enjoin good and forbid evil: Wuhayb, may God have mercy on him, said: If our scholars, may God forgive us and them, had been sincere to God in dealing with His servants, and said: O servants of God, listen to what we tell you about your Prophet and the righteous predecessors regarding their asceticism in this world, and learn from it, and do not look at these corrupt deeds of ours: they would have been sincere to God in dealing with His servants, but they refuse except to drag God’s servants into their trials and what they are in. آداب وواجبات من يقوم بالأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر: قال الذهبي رحمه الله: الصَّدعُ بالحق عظيم، يحتاج إلى قوة وإخلاص، فالمُخْلِص بلا قوة يعجِزُ عن القيام به، والقويُّ بلا إخلاص يُخْذَلُ، فمن قام بهما كاملاً، فهو صِدِّيق. ومن ضَعُفَ، فلا أقلَّ مِن التألم والإنكار بالقلب. ليس وراء ذلك إيمان، فلا قوة إلا بالله. Full English translationThe etiquette and duties of those who enjoin good and forbid evil: Al-Dhahabi, may God have mercy on him, said: Speaking the truth is a great matter, requiring strength and sincerity. A sincere person without strength is incapable of fulfilling it, and a strong person without sincerity will be let down. Whoever fulfills both completely is a steadfastly truthful person. And whoever is weak, then at the very least, he should feel pain and disapprove in his heart. Beyond that, there is no faith, and there is no power except with God. [Siyar (its abridgment) 2/931]

وجوب الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر وإن كان مقصرًا: قال عمر بن عبد العزيز رحمه الله: لو أن المرء لا يعظ أخاه حتى يحكم أمر نفسه، ويكمل الذي خلق له من عبادة ربه: إذن لتواكل الناس الخير، وإذن لرفع الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر، وقل الواعظون والساعون لله - عزَّ وجلَّ - بالنصيحة في الأرض. Full English translationThe obligation to enjoin good and forbid evil, even if one is deficient: Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, may God have mercy on him, said: If a person does not advise his brother until he has settled his own affairs and completed what he was created for in terms of worshipping his Lord, then people would leave doing good to one another, and the enjoining of good and forbidding of evil will cease, and preachers and those striving for God - the Almighty and Majestic - with sincere advice will be few on earth.
