On the authority of Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Balawi, he said: Nasr ibn Ziyad al-Qadi, may God have mercy on him, used to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and he would say: Were it not for this, I would not have taken on any work for them, but if I were not appointed to the judiciary, I would not be able to do it. He used to spend the nights in prayer, and he would fast on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and he would not be satisfied with the officials until they fulfilled the rights of the people to them. One day, Ahmad ibn Harb entered upon him and admonished him, and in his admonition, he suggested that he should resign from his position. He said: O Abu Abdullah, what compels me to do what I am doing is nothing but the support of the distressed and the ability to vindicate the oppressed against the oppressors, and perhaps God - the Exalted and Glorified - has recognized this for me. [Al-Muntazam 11/246, 247].
