Full English translationCondemnation of Arguing and Disputing in Religion: On the authority of Ma’n ibn Isa, he said: Malik ibn Anas, may God have mercy on him, was leaving the mosque one day, leaning on my hand, when a man called Abu al-Hawriyyah, who was accused of Murji’ism, caught up with him and said: O servant of God, listen to something I will say to you, argue with you, and tell you my opinion. He said: What if you defeat me? He said: If I defeat you, follow me. He said: What if another man comes and speaks to us and defeats us? He said: We will follow him. Malik, may God have mercy on him, said: O servant of God, God Almighty sent Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, with one religion, and I see you moving from one religion to another. Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, may God have mercy on him, said: Whoever makes his religion a target for disputes will frequently change his beliefs. [Al-Shari’ah / 66].
