كلما كان العبد حسن الظن بالله حسن الرجاء له صادق التوكل عليه: فإن الله لا يخيب أمله فيه ألبتة، فإنه سبحانه لا يخيب أمل آمل ولا يضيع عمل عامل.
The more a servant thinks well of Allah, hopes in Him and trusts Him sincerely, the more certain he can be that Allah will not disappoint his hope or let his work go to waste.
المؤمن المخلص لله من أطيب الناس عيشا وأنعمهم بالا وأشرحهم صدرا وأسرهم قلبا، وهذه جنة عاجلة قبل الجنة الآجلة.
A believer sincere to Allah enjoys one of the most pleasant lives, with an open heart and peaceful mind: an immediate garden before the Garden of the Hereafter.
من أعجب الأشياء أن تعرف ربك ثم لا تحبه وأن تسمع داعيه ثم تتأخر عن الإجابة، وأن تعرف قدر الربح في معاملته ثم تعمل غيره.
It is astonishing to know your Lord yet fail to love Him, hear His call yet delay answering, and know the value of what He offers yet turn to something else.
تمام الخذلان انشغال العبد بالنعمة عن المنعم وبالبلية عن المبتلي؛ فليس دومًا يبتلي ليعذّب وإنما قد يبتلي ليُهذّب.
Complete deprivation is to become absorbed in a blessing and forget its Giver, or in a trial and forget the One who tests. A trial may refine a person.
فالمؤمن دائما مع الله على نفسه وهواه وشيطانه وعدو ربه، وهذا معنى كونه من حزب الله وجنده وأوليائه.
The believer stands with Allah against his own lower desires, Satan and the enemies of his Lord. This is part of belonging to Allah's devoted people.
إذا استغنى الناس بالدنيا فاستغن أنت بالله، وإذا فرحوا بالدنيا فافرح أنت بالله، وإذا أنسوا بأحبابهم فاجعل أنسك بالله.
When others find sufficiency in worldly things, find yours in Allah. When they rejoice in the world, rejoice in Allah. When they seek company, find closeness to Him.
الصبر على غض البصر أيسر من الصبر على ألم ما بعده.
It is easier to restrain one's gaze than to endure the pain that may follow an unchecked glance.
من عرف الناس أنزلهم منازلهم، ومن عرف الله أخلص له أعماله وأقواله.
Whoever understands people gives them their proper place; whoever knows Allah makes his words and actions sincere for Him.
خراب القلب من الأمن والغفلة، وعمارته من الخشية والذكر. الشوق إلى الله ولقائه نسيم يهب على القلب يُروّح عنه وهج الدنيا.
Complacency and heedlessness ruin the heart; reverent awe and remembrance restore it. Longing to meet Allah brings relief amid worldly hardship.
الرضى يفرغ قلب العبد ويقلل همه وغمه فيتفرغ لعبادة ربه بقلب خفيف من أثقال الدنيا وهمومها.
Contentment frees the heart from much worry and sorrow, making it lighter for worship.
الإنصاف في معاملة الله: أن يعطى العبودية حقها وأن لا ينازع ربه صفات إلهيته التي لا تليق بالعبد ولا تنبغي له.
Being fair in one's relationship with Allah means fulfilling the duties of worship and not claiming the greatness that belongs to Him alone.
كان شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية يقول: من أراد السعادة الأبدية فليلزم عتبة العبودية.
Ibn al-Qayyim quotes Ibn Taymiyyah: whoever seeks lasting happiness should remain devoted to worship of Allah.
كل من أحب شيئاً غير الله عذب به ثلاث مرات: قبل حصوله، وحال حصوله بالخوف من سلبه، وإذا سلبه اشتد عذابه عليه.
Attachment to something other than Allah can bring suffering before attaining it, fear of losing it while possessing it, and pain after losing it.
بعض نتائج المعصية: قلة التوفيق، وفساد الرأي، وخفاء الحق، وفساد القلب، وإضاعة الوقت، وقسوة القلب.
Among the effects of sin are lost guidance, clouded judgment, a troubled heart, wasted time and a hardened heart.
صحة التوبة تتوقف على الإقلاع عن الذنب، والندم عليه، والعزم على ترك معاودته.
Sincere repentance requires leaving the sin, regretting it and resolving not to return to it.
للدعاء مع البلاء ثلاث مقامات: أن يكون أقوى من البلاء فيدفعه، أو أضعف فيخففه، أو يتقاوما ويمنع كل واحد منهما صاحبه.
Supplication may repel an affliction, reduce its harm, or contend with it so that each checks the other.
المخلوق إذا خفته استوحشت منه وهربت منه، والرب تعالى إذا خفته أنست به وقربت إليه.
Fear of a creature can make you flee from them; reverent fear of Allah can draw you closer to Him.
الفرق بين اسم محمد وأحمد: أن محمداً هو كثير الخصال التي يحمد عليها، وأحمد هو الذي يحمد أكثر مما يحمد غيره.
Muhammad points to the abundance of praiseworthy qualities; Ahmad points to being more worthy of praise than others.
أخسر الناس صفقة من اشتغل عن الله بنفسه، بل أخسر منه من اشتغل عن نفسه بالناس.
The greatest loss is to be distracted from Allah by oneself; greater still is to be distracted even from one's own soul by other people.
الخذلان: أن يكلك الله على نفسك، ويخلّي بينك وبينها. والتوفيق أن لا يكلك الله إلى نفسك.
Being left to oneself is deprivation; divine help is that Allah does not leave you to your own weakness.
ما مضى لا يدفع بالحزن، بل بالرضى والحمد والصبر والإيمان بالقدر، وقول العبد: قدر الله وما شاء فعل.
The past cannot be undone by grief. Meet it with contentment, gratitude, patience, faith in destiny and the words: Allah decreed, and He does what He wills.
سر التوكل وحقيقته هو اعتماد القلب على الله وحده، فلا يضره مباشرة الأسباب مع خلو القلب من الاعتماد عليها.
True reliance means that the heart depends on Allah alone, even while one takes practical steps.
أصول المعاصي كلها، كبارها وصغارها، ثلاثة: تعلق القلب بغير الله، وطاعة القوة الغضبية، والقوة الشهوانية.
The roots of wrongdoing are attachment of the heart to other than Allah, surrender to anger and surrender to desire.
وهل النعيم إلا نعيم القلب؟ وهل العذاب إلا عذاب القلب؟
Is true delight anything but the delight of the heart? Is true suffering anything but the suffering of the heart?
من أراد صفاء قلبه فليؤثر الله على شهوته.
Whoever wants a clear heart should give priority to Allah over personal cravings.
عليك بتقوى الله، فإن المتقي ليست عليه وحشة. من اتقى الله كفاه الناس.
Keep mindfulness of Allah: the God-conscious person need not feel alone, and trusting Allah is enough against dependence on people.
من وطن قلبه عند ربه سكن واستراح، ومن أرسله في الناس اضطرب واشتد به القلق.
A heart settled with its Lord finds rest; a heart sent wandering among people becomes anxious.
ما أتي من أتي إلا من قِبَل إضاعة الشكر وإهمال الافتقار والدعاء.
Neglecting gratitude, the awareness of one's need for Allah and supplication is a cause of loss.
كفى بك عزًّا أنك له عبد، وكفى بك فخراً أنه لك رب.
It is honour enough to be His servant, and a source of pride that He is your Lord.
من عظم وقار الله في قلبه أن يعصيه وقره الله في قلوب الخلق أن يذلوه.
Whoever honours Allah so deeply that it keeps him from disobedience is granted honour in the hearts of people.
دافع الخطرة، فإن لم تفعل صارت فكرة، فدافع الفكرة، فإن لم تفعل صارت شهوة، فحاربها.
Resist a fleeting thought before it becomes an idea; resist an idea before it becomes a desire; resist a desire before it becomes a deed.
كيف يكون عاقلا من باع الجنة بما فيها بشهوة ساعة.
How can a person trade Paradise and all it contains for a fleeting desire?
الدنيا من أولها إلى آخرها لا تساوي غم ساعة فكيف بغم العمر.
All of worldly life is not worth an hour of distress, much less a lifetime of it.
للعبد رب هو ملاقيه وبيت هو ساكنه، فينبغي له أن يسترضي ربه قبل لقائه، ويعمر بيته قبل انتقاله إليه.
You will meet your Lord and move to your lasting home. Seek His pleasure before that meeting and prepare your home before moving there.
أعظم الربح في الدنيا أن تشغل نفسك كل وقت بما هو أولى بها وأنفع لها في معادها.
The greatest gain in this world is to spend each moment on what will most benefit you in the Hereafter.
إضاعة الوقت أشد من الموت، لأن إضاعة الوقت تقطعك عن الله والدار الآخرة، والموت يقطعك عن الدنيا وأهلها.
Wasted time cuts a person off from Allah and the Hereafter; death cuts a person off from this world and its people.
دخل الناس النار من ثلاثة أبواب: باب شبهة أورثت شكاً، وباب شهوة أورثت تقديم الهوى، وباب غضب أورث العدوان.
Three paths lead to ruin: doubts about faith, desires placed above obedience, and anger that leads to injustice.
أصول الخطايا كلها ثلاثة: الكبر، والحرص، والحسد.
Three roots of wrongdoing are arrogance, greed and envy.
أفرض الجهاد جهاد النفس وجهاد الهوى، وجهاد الشيطان وجهاد الدنيا.
Among the most binding struggles are the struggles against one's lower self, desires, Satan and attachment to the world.
إذا أصبح العبد وأمسى وليس همه إلا الله وحده تحمّل الله سبحانه حوائجه كلها، وفرغ قلبه لمحبته، ولسانه لذكره.
When a servant's concern morning and evening is Allah alone, Allah attends to their needs and opens the heart to love, the tongue to remembrance and the limbs to obedience.
ما ضرب عبد بعقوبة أعظم من قسوة القلب والبعد عن الله.
Few punishments are greater than a hardened heart and distance from Allah.
قسوة القلب من أربعة أشياء إذا جاوزت قدر الحاجة: الأكل والنوم والكلام والمخالطة.
Excess in eating, sleeping, speaking and socialising can harden the heart.
لا تستصعب مخالفة الناس والتحيز إلى الله ورسوله ولو كنت وحدك، فإن الله معك.
Do not find it too hard to stand with Allah and His Messenger even when alone; Allah sees and guards you.
الزهد ترك ما لا ينفع في الآخرة، والورع ترك ما يخشى ضرره في الآخرة.
Detachment is leaving what brings no benefit in the Hereafter. Scrupulousness is leaving what might cause harm there.
من علامات السعادة والفلاح أن العبد كلما زيد في علمه زيد في تواضعه ورحمته.
A sign of flourishing is that increased knowledge brings increased humility and mercy.
ليس على العبد أضر من ملَلهِ لنِعَم الله، فإنه لا يراها نعمة، ولا يشكره عليها ولا يفرح بها.
One of the most harmful habits is growing tired of Allah's blessings and failing to see, thank Him for or rejoice in them.
من صدق الله في جميع أموره صَنَع الله له فوق ما يصنع لغيره.
Whoever is truthful with Allah in all matters receives more than they expected.
للعبد بين يدي الله موقفان: موقف بين يديه في الصلاة، وموقف بين يديه يوم لقائه.
A servant stands before Allah twice: in prayer and on the day they meet Him.
إذا أراد الله بعبده خيراً فتح له من أبواب التوبة والندم والانكسار والافتقار والاستعانة به ودوام الدعاء.
When Allah wants good for a servant, He opens doors of repentance, regret, humility, need, seeking His help and constant supplication.
القلوب المتعلقة بالشهوات محجوبة عن الله بقدر تعلقها بها.
Hearts attached to their cravings are veiled from Allah in proportion to that attachment.
احترز من عدوين هلك بهما أكثر الخلق: صادّ عن سبيل الله بشبهاته، ومفتون بدنياه ورئاسته.
Beware of two dangers: a person who diverts others from Allah with doubts, and someone captivated by worldly status.
إنما تحصل الهموم والغموم والأحزان من جهتين: الرغبة في الدنيا والحرص عليها، والتقصير في أعمال البر والطاعة.
Much anxiety and sorrow arise from two sources: excessive desire for the world and neglect of good deeds and obedience.
مَن دعَا إلـى مـَحَـبّـة الله أَحـَـبَّـه الله.
Whoever calls people to love Allah will be loved by Allah.
على قدر ثبوت قدم العبد على هذا الصراط الذي نصبه الله لعباده في هذه الدار، يكون ثبوت قدمه على الصراط المنصوب على متن جهنم.
Steadiness on the path Allah has set in this life corresponds to one's steadiness on the path in the Hereafter.
الدعاء من أقوى الأسباب في دفع المكروه وحصول المطلوب.
Supplication is among the strongest means of averting harm and obtaining what is sought.
ما استجلبت نعم الله واستدفعت نقمه بمثل طاعته والتقرب إليه والإحسان إلى خلقه.
Obedience to Allah, drawing near to Him and kindness to His creation bring blessings and help ward off hardship.
أعظم الناس غروراً من اغتر بالدنيا وعاجلها، فآثرها على الآخرة.
The most deluded person prefers the immediate world to the Hereafter.
كل من أحب شيئاً دون الله لغير الله فإن مضرته أكثر من منفعته، وعذابه أعظم من نعيمه.
Loving something apart from Allah for its own sake can cause more harm than benefit and more anguish than pleasure.
الرب تعالى أسماؤه كلها حسنى، وأوصافه كلها كمال، وأفعاله كلها حكمة.
All of Allah's names are beautiful, all His attributes are perfect, and all His actions are wise.
إذا ابتلى الله عبده بشيء من أنواع البلايا والمحن: فإن ردّه ذلك الابتلاء إلى ربه فهو علامة سعادته.
When a trial returns a servant to Allah and brings the heart to Him, it may be a sign of good for that servant.
إن الله إذا أراد بعبده خيراً سلب رؤية أعماله الحسنة من قلبه، وشغله برؤية ذنبه.
When Allah intends good for a servant, He can turn the person's attention from boasting about good deeds to awareness of their own faults.
طوبى لمن شغله عيبه عن عيوب الناس.
Blessed is the person whose own shortcomings keep them busy from finding fault with others.
متى وصل اليقين إلى القلب امتلأ نوراً وإشراقاً وانتفى عنه كل ريب وشك وسخط وهم وغم.
When certainty reaches the heart it fills it with light and removes doubt, resentment and grief.
الجنة دار الطيبين، والنار دار الخبيثين.
Paradise is the abode of the good; the Fire is the abode of the wicked.
محبة الله وحده بكل القلب جنة الدنيا وسرور النفس ولذة القلب ونعيم الروح.
Loving Allah wholeheartedly is a garden in this life, joy to the soul and delight to the heart.
إن الله تعالى لم يبتله ليهلكه، وإنما ابتلاه ليمتحن صبره وعبوديته.
Allah does not test His servant to destroy them, but to test their patience and devotion.
استقامة القلب بشيئين: أن تتقدم محبة الله على جميع المحاب، وتعظيم الأمر والنهي.
A sound heart gives love of Allah priority over other loves and honours His commands and prohibitions.
من آثر غيره عليه لم يبارك فيه.
What is preferred over Allah brings no blessing.
تتفاضل الأعمال عند الله بتفاضل ما في القلوب من الإيمان والإخلاص والمحبة وتوابعها.
Deeds differ in worth according to the faith, sincerity and love present in the heart.
ليس الشأن في العمل، إنما الشأن كل الشأن في حفظ العمل مما يفسده ويحبطه.
The task is not only to do a good deed, but also to guard it from what could spoil or nullify it.
ما أمر الله بأمر إلا كان للشيطان نزغتان: إما تقصير وتفريط، وإما إفراط وغلو.
Satan may pull a person toward either neglect and shortcoming or excess and extremism.
للصدقة تأثيراً عجيباً في دفع أنواع البلاء.
Charity can have a remarkable effect in warding off kinds of hardship.
صدأ القلب بالغفلة والذنب، وجلاؤه بالاستغفار والذكر.
Heedlessness and sin tarnish the heart; seeking forgiveness and remembering Allah polish it.
المحبوس من حبس قلبه عن ربه تعالى، والمأسور من أسره هواه.
The true prisoner is the one whose heart is shut away from the Lord; the captive is the one held by desire.
أفضل الذكر ما تواطأ عليه القلب واللسان.
The best remembrance joins the heart and the tongue.
الذكر أفضل من الدعاء، والدعاء الذي يتقدمه الذكر والثناء أفضل وأقرب إلى الإجابة من الدعاء المجرد.
Remembrance praises Allah, while supplication asks Him for a need. A prayer preceded by praise and remembrance is more fitting for an answer.
لا تتم الرغبة في الآخرة إلا بالزهد في الدنيا.
Longing for the Hereafter is strengthened by detachment from this world.
حب الدنيا والرياسة هو الذي عمر النار بأهلها، والزهد في الدنيا والرياسة هو الذي عمر الجنة بأهلها.
Love of worldly status draws people toward ruin; detachment from it helps them seek Paradise.
الآخرة خير وأبقى، فهي خيرات كاملة دائمة، وهذه خيالات ناقصة منقطعة.
The Hereafter is better and more lasting: its good endures, while worldly attractions fade.
