Full English translationThe way of the early Muslims with the Quran: On the authority of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may God be pleased with him), he said: "The one who carries the Quran should be known by his night when people are sleeping, by his day when people are eating, by his sadness when people are rejoicing, by his weeping when people are laughing, by his silence when people are chattering, and by his humility when people are being arrogant. The one who carries the Quran should be weeping, sorrowful, forbearing, wise, and quiet. The one who carries the Quran should not be harsh, heedless, loud, boisterous, or severe." (Narrated by Imam Ahmad). [Sifat al-Safwa 1/188]
