On the authority of Khalid bin Ma’dan, may God have mercy on him, he said: There is no servant who does not have four eyes; two eyes in his face with which he sees the affairs of this world, and two eyes in his heart with which he sees the affairs of the Hereafter. So if God wills good for a servant, He opens the two eyes in his heart, so he sees with them what He has promised of the unseen, and they are unseen, so he believes in the unseen with the unseen. And if He wills otherwise for a servant, He leaves him as he is. Then he recited: “Or are there locks upon their hearts?” [Muhammad: 24]. [Al-Hilya (its abridgment) 2/188].
