Treating people kindly: Abu al-Darda’ (may God be pleased with him) said: “If you criticize people, they will criticize you; if you leave them alone, they will not leave you alone; and if you run away from them, they will catch you.” A man said: “O Abu al-Darda’, what do you advise me to do?” He said: “Give up your honor for the day of your need. No believer has ever swallowed a draught more beloved to God, the Almighty and Majestic, than suppressing his anger. So forgive, and God will honor you.” [Sifat al-Safwa 1/301, Ibn Abi al-Dunya Encyclopedia 7/521]
