ما قيل في كتم بعض العلم للمصلحة، وعدم بثه لكل أحد: قال الشعبي رحمه الله: لا تمنعوا العلم أهله فتأثموا، ولا تحدثوا به غير أهله فتأثموا. [الحلية (تهذيبه) 2 / 116].
Full English translationWhat was said about concealing some knowledge for the sake of the greater good, and not spreading it to everyone: Al-Sha’bi, may God have mercy on him, said: Do not withhold knowledge from its people, lest you sin, and do not speak of it to those who are not its people, lest you sin. Full English translationWhat was said about concealing some knowledge for the sake of the greater good, and not spreading it to everyone: On the authority of Yazid bin Maysarah, may God have mercy on him, he said: Do not give away your knowledge to someone who does not ask for it, do not scatter pearls before someone who will not pick them up, and do not display your merchandise before someone who will reject it.
