Women of the Salaf: On the authority of Thabit al-Banani: Silah ibn Ashim was on a military expedition, and with him was his son. He said: “O my son, go forward and fight so that I may seek Allah’s reward for losing you.” So he charged and fought until he was killed, may God have mercy on him. Then he went forward and was killed. So the women gathered at the house of his wife, Mu’adhah al-Adawiyyah, may God have mercy on her. She said: “Welcome. If you have come to congratulate me, then welcome to you. But if you have come for something else, then go back.” [Sifat al-Safwah 2/153].

Women of the Salaf: On the authority of Juwayriyah bint Asma’, may God have mercy on her, she said: Three brothers from the Banu Qati’ah were present on the day of Tustar, and they were martyred. One day their mother went out to the market for some business, and a man who had been present at the Tustar incident met her, and she recognized him and asked him about her sons, and he said: They were martyred. She said: Were they facing forward or turning back? He said: Facing forward, so she said: Praise be to God, they attained victory and protected the honor, may my soul and my father and mother be sacrificed for them. [Sifat al-Safwah 4/589].

Women of the Salaf: On the authority of Abda bint Abi Shawal, she said: Rabi’a, may God have mercy on her, used to pray all night, and when dawn broke she would take a short nap in her prayer place until the dawn became bright. She said: I used to hear her say when she jumped up from her sleep: Woe to you, O soul, how long will you sleep? And until when will you not rise? Soon you will sleep a sleep from which you will not rise except with a cry on the Day of Resurrection. She said: This was her habit throughout her life until she died. [Ibn Abi Al-Dunya Encyclopedia 1/268].

Women of the Salaf: On the authority of Abu Salamah, may God have mercy on him, he said: We had an old woman, may God have mercy on her, in the neighborhood whom we did not know, but our elders knew her. She was called Munira. When night came, she would say: The terror has come, the darkness has come, the fear has come, and how similar this is to the Day of Resurrection? He said: Then she would get up and continue to pray until morning. [Ibn Abi Al-Dunya Encyclopedia 1/269].
