Jihad and sacrifice in the cause of God: On the authority of Ishaq bin Saad bin Abi Waqqas: My father told me that Abdullah bin Jahsh, may God be pleased with him, said to him on the day of Uhud: Will you not supplicate to God? So they went aside and Abdullah bin Jahsh supplicated and said: O Lord, if I meet the enemy tomorrow, make me meet a man who is fierce in his strength and fierce in his anger, so that I fight him for Your sake and he fights me, then he seizes me and cuts off my nose and ears, so that if I meet You tomorrow You will say: O Abdullah, who cut off your nose and ears? And I will say: For Your sake and for the sake of Your Messenger, and You will say: You have spoken the truth. Saad said: I saw him at the end of the day and his nose and ears were hanging by a thread. [Al-Hilya (its abridgment) 1/104].
