Full English translation

Glory and perfection belong to Allah.

Virtue: Declares Allah free from every imperfection. Saying it one hundred times earns one thousand good deeds or removes one thousand sins.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Al-ḥamdu lillāh

Full English translation

All praise and thanks belong to Allah.

Virtue: Fills the scale of good deeds and trains the heart to recognize every blessing as coming from Allah.

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

Allāhu akbar

Full English translation

Allah is greater than everything.

Virtue: Magnifies Allah above every concern and is among the four words most beloved to Allah.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ

Lā ilāha illa Allāh

Full English translation

None has the right to be worshipped except Allah.

Virtue: The best form of remembrance and the foundation of pure worship and faith.

لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh

Full English translation

There is no power and no strength except through Allah.

Virtue: A treasure from the treasures of Paradise; it teaches complete reliance upon Allah.

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

SubḥānAllāh, wal-ḥamdu lillāh, wa lā ilāha illa Allāh, wa Allāhu akbar

Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, none is worthy of worship except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.

Virtue: These are the four words most beloved to Allah; one may begin with any of them.

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

Virtue: Whoever says it one hundred times in a day has sins erased, even if they are like the foam of the sea.

Virtue: A palm tree is planted in Paradise for the person who says it.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Lā ilāha illa Allāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, wa Huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr

None is worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion and praise, and He has power over everything.

Virtue: Said one hundred times: reward like freeing ten slaves, one hundred good deeds, one hundred sins erased, and protection from Satan that day.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Glorify Allah thirty-three times, praise Him thirty-three times, and magnify Him thirty-four times.

Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ taught this before sleep and said it is better than having a servant.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

Astaghfirullāha wa atūbu ilayh

I seek Allah’s forgiveness and repent to Him.

Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ sought Allah’s forgiveness and repented more than seventy times each day.

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي؛ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Allāhumma Anta Rabbī lā ilāha illā Ant, khalaqtanī wa anā ʿabduk, wa anā ʿalā ʿahdika wa waʿdika mastataʿt, aʿūdhu bika min sharri mā ṣanaʿt, abūʾu laka biniʿmatika ʿalayya, wa abūʾu bidhanbī, faghfir lī, fa-innahu lā yaghfirudh-dhunūba illā Ant

Full English translation

O Allah, You are my Lord; none is worthy of worship except You. You created me and I am Your servant. I uphold Your covenant as best I can. I seek refuge in You from my wrongdoing. I acknowledge Your blessings and my sin, so forgive me; none forgives sins except You.

Virtue: Whoever says it with certainty in the morning or evening and dies before the next period enters Paradise.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيَّ الْقَيُّومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

Astaghfirullāhal-ʿAẓīm alladhī lā ilāha illā Huwal-Ḥayyul-Qayyūm wa atūbu ilayh

Full English translation

I seek forgiveness from Allah the Magnificent, besides whom none is worthy of worship, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him.

Virtue: A powerful formula of repentance and return to Allah, narrated with forgiveness for even grave wrongdoing.

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

Rabbighfir lī wa tub ʿalayya, innaka Antat-Tawwābur-Raḥīm

Full English translation

My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance. You are the Accepter of repentance, the Most Merciful.

Virtue: The Companions counted the Prophet ﷺ saying this one hundred times in a single gathering.

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ، عَدَدَ خَلْقِهِ، وَرِضَا نَفْسِهِ، وَزِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ، وَمِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ

SubḥānAllāhi wa biḥamdih, ʿadada khalqih, wa riḍā nafsih, wa zinata ʿarshih, wa midāda kalimātih

Full English translation

Glory and praise be to Allah: as numerous as His creation, as pleasing to Him, as weighty as His Throne, and as vast as the ink of His words.

Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said these words three times and taught that they outweigh prolonged remembrance.

رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا، وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا، وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ نَبِيًّا

Raḍītu billāhi Rabban, wa bil-Islāmi dīnan, wa bi-Muḥammadin Nabiyyan

Full English translation

I am pleased with Allah as Lord, Islam as religion, and Muhammad as Prophet.

Virtue: Whoever says it three times morning and evening is promised Allah’s pleasure on the Day of Resurrection.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ، وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Bismillāhilladhī lā yaḍurru maʿasmihi shayʾun fil-arḍi wa lā fis-samāʾ, wa Huwas-Samīʿul-ʿAlīm

Full English translation

In Allah’s name, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm; He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Virtue: Said three times morning and evening, it is a prophetic means of protection from sudden harm.

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Aʿūdhu bikalimātillāhit-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq

Full English translation

I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words from the evil of what He created.

Virtue: Whoever says it three times in the evening is protected from the harm of poisonous creatures that night.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ أُشْهِدُكَ، وَأُشْهِدُ حَمَلَةَ عَرْشِكَ، وَمَلَائِكَتَكَ، وَجَمِيعَ خَلْقِكَ، أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ

Allāhumma innī aṣbaḥtu ushhiduk, wa ushhidu ḥamalata ʿarshik, wa malāʾikatak, wa jamīʿa khalqik, annaka Antallāhu lā ilāha illā Anta waḥdaka lā sharīka lak, wa anna Muḥammadan ʿabduka wa rasūluk

Full English translation

O Allah, this morning I call You, the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels, and all Your creation to witness that You are Allah: there is no deity worthy of worship except You alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger.

Virtue: A testimony of faith to be repeated four times; the evening wording begins with “amsaytu.”

اللَّهُمَّ مَا أَصْبَحَ بِي مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ أَوْ بِأَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ فَمِنْكَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَلَكَ الشُّكْرُ

Allāhumma mā aṣbaḥa bī min niʿmatin aw bi-aḥadin min khalqik, faminka waḥdaka lā sharīka lak, falakal-ḥamdu wa lakash-shukr

Full English translation

O Allah, every blessing I or any of Your creation has this morning is from You alone. All praise and thanks belong to You.

Virtue: Whoever says it in the morning has fulfilled the gratitude due for the day; use “amsā” in the evening.

أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Aṣbaḥnā wa aṣbaḥal-mulku lillāh, wal-ḥamdu lillāh

We have entered the morning, and all dominion and praise belong to Allah.

Virtue: The opening of a comprehensive prophetic morning remembrance affirming Allah’s sovereignty and seeking the day’s good.

اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا، وَبِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ النُّشُورُ

Allāhumma bika aṣbaḥnā, wa bika amsaynā, wa bika naḥyā, wa bika namūt, wa ilaykan-nushūr

O Allah, by You we enter the morning and evening; by You we live and die, and to You is the resurrection.

Virtue: A daily declaration that life, death, and resurrection are entirely in Allah’s hands.

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ، بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ، أَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ، وَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ

Yā Ḥayyu yā Qayyūm, biraḥmatika astaghīth, aṣliḥ lī shaʾnī kullah, wa lā takilnī ilā nafsī ṭarfata ʿayn

Full English translation

O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, I seek help through Your mercy. Set right all my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for a blink.

Virtue: A morning and evening remembrance expressing complete need for Allah’s mercy and care.

أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Amsaynā wa amsal-mulku lillāh, wal-ḥamdu lillāh

We have entered the evening, and all dominion and praise belong to Allah.

Virtue: The opening of a comprehensive prophetic evening remembrance seeking the night’s good and protection from its evil.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ

Allāhumma innī asʾalukal-ʿafwa wal-ʿāfiyata fid-dunyā wal-ākhirah

Full English translation

O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter.

Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ did not leave this comprehensive request in the morning or evening.

اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَدَنِي، اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي سَمْعِي، اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَصَرِي، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Allāhumma ʿāfinī fī badanī, Allāhumma ʿāfinī fī samʿī, Allāhumma ʿāfinī fī baṣarī, lā ilāha illā Ant

Full English translation

O Allah, grant my body well-being. O Allah, grant my hearing well-being. O Allah, grant my sight well-being. There is no deity except You.

Virtue: A prophetic morning and evening request for bodily health and preservation of hearing and sight.

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

ḤasbunAllāhu wa niʿmal-wakīl

Full English translation

Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Trustee.

Virtue: Words of believers facing fear; the verse says their faith increased and they relied upon Allah.

حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ، عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

ḤasbiyAllāhu lā ilāha illā Huwa, ʿalayhi tawakkaltu, wa Huwa Rabbul-ʿArshil-ʿAẓīm

Allah is sufficient for me. None is worthy of worship except Him. In Him I trust, and He is Lord of the Magnificent Throne.

Virtue: A Qur’anic declaration of reliance upon Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Lā ilāha illā Anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn

None is worthy of worship except You. Glory be to You; indeed, I was among the wrongdoers.

Virtue: The prayer of Prophet Yunus. The Prophet ﷺ taught that a Muslim who calls upon Allah with it receives an answer.

فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ

Fadhkurūnī adhkurkum, washkurū lī wa lā takfurūn

Full English translation

Remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me and do not be ungrateful.

Virtue: Allah promises to remember those who remember Him—one of the greatest honors of dhikr.

أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ

Alā bidhikrillāhi taṭmaʾinnul-qulūb

Full English translation

Surely, in the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest.

Virtue: This verse teaches that lasting inner reassurance is found through remembering Allah.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا، وَسَبِّحُوهُ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا

Yā ayyuhalladhīna āmanudhkurullāha dhikran kathīrā, wa sabbiḥūhu bukratan wa aṣīlā

Full English translation

Believers, remember Allah often and glorify Him morning and evening.

Virtue: Allah commands abundant remembrance throughout the day, especially morning and evening.

الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَى جُنُوبِهِمْ

Alladhīna yadhkurūnAllāha qiyāman wa quʿūdan wa ʿalā junūbihim

Full English translation

Those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying on their sides.

Virtue: True remembrance accompanies the believer in every posture and circumstance.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ

Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim ʿalā Nabiyyinā Muḥammad

Full English translation

O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad.

Virtue: Whoever sends one prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ receives ten blessings from Allah.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd

Full English translation

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and his family as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and his family. You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

Virtue: The authentic form taught by the Prophet ﷺ for sending prayers upon him.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلَامُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلَامُ، تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ

Astaghfirullāh, Astaghfirullāh, Astaghfirullāh. Allāhumma Antas-Salāmu wa minkas-salām, tabārakta yā Dhal-Jalāli wal-Ikrām

Full English translation

I seek Allah’s forgiveness three times. O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, Possessor of Majesty and Honor.

Virtue: This was the Prophet’s ﷺ remembrance immediately after completing the obligatory prayer.

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ

Allāhu lā ilāha illā Huwal-Ḥayyul-Qayyūm

Full English translation

Allah—none is worthy of worship except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer.

Virtue: Reciting the complete Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer is a means to Paradise, with death the only remaining barrier.

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ، وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ، وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

Qul HuwAllāhu Aḥad; Qul aʿūdhu bi Rabbil-falaq; Qul aʿūdhu bi Rabbin-nās

Say: “He is Allah, the One.” And say: “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak.” And say: “I seek refuge in the Lord of humankind.”

Glory be to my Lord, the Most High.

Virtue: The prophetic glorification said in prostration, when the servant is nearest to the Lord.

سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ، رَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ

Subbūḥun Quddūs, Rabbul-malāʾikati war-rūḥ

Full English translation

Perfectly Glorious and Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit.

Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said this in bowing and prostration, declaring Allah’s perfect holiness.

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ

SubḥānakAllāhumma wa biḥamdik, ashhadu an lā ilāha illā Ant, astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilayk

Glory and praise be to You, O Allah. I testify none is worthy of worship except You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.

Virtue: This expiation of a gathering erases mistakes committed during the gathering.

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ

LabbaykAllāhumma labbayk, labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk, innal-ḥamda wan-niʿmata laka wal-mulk, lā sharīka lak

Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner. All praise, blessing, and dominion belong to You; You have no partner.

Virtue: The Prophet’s ﷺ talbiyah, proclaiming wholehearted response, praise, gratitude, sovereignty, and pure monotheism.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
