Ruqyah Must Be Free of Shirk

اعْرِضُوا عَلَيَّ رُقَاكُمْ، لَا بَأْسَ بِالرُّقَى مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ شِرْكٌ

Iʿriḍū ʿalayya ruqākum. Lā ba’sa bi-r-ruqā mā lam yakun fīhi shirk.

Present your ruqyahs to me. There is no harm in ruqyah so long as it contains no association of partners with Allah.

The governing rule: ruqyah must use lawful words with understood meaning, rely upon Allah alone, and contain no talismans, invocations of jinn, unknown formulas or shirk.
