Lawful ruqyah contains no shirk. The Prophet ﷺ permitted ruqyah free of associating partners with Allah. Recite the Quran and understood, lawful prayers; avoid amulets, appeals to others besides Allah and unknown words.
Combine prayer with treatment. The Prophet ﷺ encouraged seeking remedies. Obtain medical assessment when needed; symptoms alone are not proof of an evil eye, sorcery or possession.
Trust Allah and pursue what benefits you. The Prophet ﷺ urged seeking what is useful, asking Allah for help and not giving up. Do not let fear or others’ claims turn you away from beneficial steps.
ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها described this nightly prophetic method. During his final illness, she recited and wiped him with his own blessed hand. Perform 3 times before sleep.
The Prophet ﷺ smiled and confirmed, “How did you know it is a ruqyah?” This is direct approval of a Companion’s ruqyah practice. Recite al-Fātiḥah and blow lightly; no compulsory number is established in this report.
The Prophet ﷺ confirmed that the devil had spoken truth about the protective virtue of reciting Āyat al-Kursī before sleep. Recite Āyat al-Kursī once before sleep.
Scholars explained “suffice him” in several compatible ways, including protection and sufficiency in night worship. Recite Qur’an 2:285-286 each night.
Regular recitation of Sūrat al-Baqarah is an authentic means of protecting the home from satanic presence. Recite the sūrah in the home; no fixed schedule is stated in this hadith.
The governing rule: ruqyah must use lawful words with understood meaning, rely upon Allah alone, and contain no talismans, invocations of jinn, unknown formulas or shirk. A principle to observe in every ruqyah.
The eye has an effect only by Allah’s decree. The identified person may be asked to wash in the prescribed way; accusations and superstition are forbidden. Follow the prophetic washing procedure only when applicable.
The Prophet ﷺ instructed that lawful ruqyah be performed for a girl whose face showed the effect of the evil eye. Use the Qur’anic and prophetic ruqyahs in this collection.
Anas رضي الله عنه reported explicit permission for lawful ruqyah in these cases. Urgent bites, stings and infections also require immediate medical treatment. Use lawful ruqyah together with appropriate medical care.
O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the suffering and heal him. You are the Healer; there is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness.
In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or the eye of an envier. May Allah heal you. In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you.
O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the next, and for pardon and well-being in my religion, worldly life, family and wealth. Conceal my faults and calm my fears. Protect me from before me, behind me, to my right and left, and above me. I seek refuge in Your greatness from being struck down from beneath me.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the withdrawal of Your blessing, the loss of well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all forms of Your wrath.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from laziness, decrepitude, cowardice, miserliness, the hardships of old age, the trial of the Dajjal, and the punishment of the grave.
I seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of Hell. I seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave. I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the False Messiah, the Dajjal. I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the trials of life and death.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, a heart that does not humble itself, a soul that is never satisfied and a supplication that is not heard.
O Allah, to You I submit, in You I believe, upon You I rely, to You I turn, and by Your help I contend. I seek refuge in Your might—none has the right to be worshipped except You—from being led astray. You are the Ever-Living who never dies, while jinn and humankind die.
O Allah, I ask You for every good, immediate and delayed, what I know and what I do not know. I seek refuge in You from every evil, immediate and delayed, what I know and what I do not know. I ask You for the good Your servant and Prophet asked of You, and seek refuge from the evil from which Your servant and Prophet sought refuge. I ask You for Paradise and every word or deed that brings one near it, and seek refuge from the Fire and every word or deed that brings one near it. I ask You to make every decree You ordain for me good.
O Allah, Originator of the heavens and earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen: none deserves worship except You, Lord and Sovereign of everything. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul, the evil of Satan and his snare, and from committing harm against myself or bringing it upon another Muslim.
O Allah, Lord of the heavens, earth and the mighty Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, Splitter of grain and date-stones, Revealer of the Torah, Gospel and Criterion: I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything under Your control. You are the First, with nothing before You; the Last, with nothing after You; the Most High, with nothing above You; and the Inward, with nothing beyond You. Settle our debts and free us from poverty.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from being crushed by a collapse, falling from a height, drowning, burning, and senility. I seek refuge in You from Satan confounding me at death, from dying while retreating from Your path, and from dying by a venomous sting.
O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your anger, in Your pardon from Your punishment, and in You from You. I cannot praise You fully; You are as You have praised Yourself.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the trial and punishment of the Fire, the trial and punishment of the grave, and the evil of the trials of wealth and poverty.
O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good within it and the good for which it was sent; I seek refuge from its evil, the evil within it and the evil for which it was sent.
O Allah, You are the companion on the journey and the guardian of the family left behind. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, a distressing sight, and a bad return concerning my wealth and family.
We have entered the morning and all dominion belongs to Allah. All praise belongs to Him. None deserves worship except Allah alone, without partner; His is dominion and praise, and He has power over everything. My Lord, I ask for the good in this day and after it, and seek refuge from its evil and the evil after it. I seek refuge from laziness, the hardship of old age, and punishment in the Fire and the grave.
We have entered the evening and all dominion belongs to Allah. All praise belongs to Him. None deserves worship except Allah alone, without partner; His is dominion and praise, and He has power over everything. My Lord, I ask for the good in this night and after it, and seek refuge from its evil and the evil after it. I seek refuge from laziness, the hardship of old age, and punishment in the Fire and the grave.
O Allah, You are my Lord; none deserves worship except You. You created me and I am Your servant. I keep Your covenant and promise as far as I can. I seek protection from the evil I have done. I acknowledge Your blessing upon me and confess my sin. Forgive me, for only You forgive sins.
None deserves worship except Allah, the Magnificent, the Forbearing. None deserves worship except Allah, Lord of the mighty Throne. None deserves worship except Allah, Lord of the heavens, earth and noble Throne.
O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and the mighty Throne, protect me from so-and-so and his supporters among Your creation, so none of them harms or oppresses me. Mighty is Your protection and exalted is Your praise; none deserves worship except You.
O Allah, this morning I call You, the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels, and all Your creation to witness that You are Allah: there is no deity worthy of worship except You alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger.
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the straight path, the path of those whom You have blessed, not those who have incurred anger, nor those who have gone astray.
Allah: there is no deity worthy of worship except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and preserving them does not weary Him. He is the Most High, the Magnificent.
They followed what the devils recited during Solomon’s reign. Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and what was sent down to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut. Those two taught no one without first saying: We are only a test, so do not disbelieve. Yet people learned from them what could separate a man from his wife, though they could harm no one through it except by Allah’s permission. They learned what harmed them and did not benefit them. They knew that whoever purchased it would have no share in the Hereafter. Miserable indeed was that for which they sold themselves, if only they knew.
The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, as do the believers. All believe in Allah, His angels, His books and His messengers: We make no distinction between any of His messengers. They say: We hear and obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord; to You is the final return. Allah burdens no soul beyond its capacity. It receives the good it earns and bears the evil it earns. Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not lay on us a burden like that which You laid on those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we cannot bear. Pardon us, forgive us and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.
We revealed to Moses: “Throw your staff.” At once it swallowed what they falsely produced. The truth was established, and what they were doing came to nothing. Thus they were defeated there and returned humiliated. The sorcerers fell down in prostration. They said: “We believe in the Lord of all worlds, the Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
When they cast down, Musa said: “What you have brought is magic. Indeed, Allah will nullify it. Allah does not set right the work of those who spread corruption. Allah establishes the truth through His words, even though the criminals dislike it.”
We said: “Do not fear; indeed, you are the one who will prevail. Throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow what they have made. What they have made is only a sorcerer’s trick, and the sorcerer will not succeed wherever he goes.”
Did you think that We created you without purpose and that you would not be returned to Us? Exalted is Allah, the true King. There is no deity worthy of worship except Him, Lord of the noble Throne. Whoever calls upon another deity alongside Allah, for which he has no proof, his reckoning rests only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed. Say: “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy.”
In Allah’s name, the Most Compassionate, the Merciful. Say: He is Allah—One and Indivisible. Allah, the Sustainer needed by all. He has never had offspring, nor was He born. And there is none comparable to Him.
In Allah’s name, the Most Compassionate, the Merciful. Say: “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of what He created, from the evil of darkness when it settles, from the evil of those who blow on knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.”
In Allah’s name, the Most Compassionate, the Merciful. Say: “I seek refuge in the Lord of humankind, the King of humankind, the Allah of humankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in people’s hearts, from among jinn and humankind.”
Had We made it a Quran in a foreign tongue, they would have said: Why are its verses not made clear? A foreign tongue and an Arab messenger? Say: for those who believe, it is guidance and healing. As for those who do not believe, there is deafness in their ears and it is blindness for them. It is as though they are being called from a distant place.
The disbelievers would almost cut you down with their eyes when they hear the Reminder, and they say, “He is certainly a madman.” But it is only a reminder to the whole world.
And remember Ayyub, when he called to his Lord: Harm has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful. So We answered him, removed his suffering and restored his family to him, and as many more with them, as a mercy from Us and a reminder for those who worship.
And remember the man of the fish, when he left in anger, thinking We would not constrain him. Then he called out in the darkness: None deserves worship except You. Glory be to You; I was indeed among the wrongdoers. So We answered him and rescued him from distress. Thus do We rescue the believers.
Then eat from all fruits and follow your Lord’s paths made easy. From their bellies comes a drink of varied colours in which there is healing for people. In this is a sign for people who reflect.
If Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it except Him. If He intends good for you, none can repel His bounty. He grants it to whom He wills among His servants; He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
If you ask them who created the heavens and earth, they will say Allah. Say: consider what you call on besides Allah. If Allah intends harm for me, can they remove His harm? If He intends mercy for me, can they withhold His mercy? Say: Allah is sufficient for me. In Him let those who trust place their trust.
All faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. The one carrying wrongdoing will have failed. Whoever does righteous deeds as a believer need fear neither injustice nor deprivation.
